Be aware! How to protect yourself from scammers

Wherever money is involved, fraudsters are also at work. The crypto world is no exception. That’s why it’s all the more important to stay alert and know a trick or two to uncover scams and false promises.

Unfortunately, fraudsters are also using the Blocktrade brand name and logo. We have, of course, alert systems notifying us and we are removing fake pages and information as fast as possible to protect our community. Nevertheless, knowing about such cases and what to look out for is still one of the safest protections. That’s why we’re highlighting some security measures in this article.

Example of a fraudulent website that copied text and images from Blocktrade.

First things first:

To help you know what to look for, here are a few examples of typical crypto scams.

Duplicated, fake web pages

It has been our experience that scammers will stop at nothing and even copy our entire website or parts of it, such as our Terms and Conditions including our address.

  • Always double check that you are on the right website
  • Check if it is a secure connection, recognizable by the s https of the URL
  • Only download from trusted sources

Reach out to [email protected] if you are unsure or if you see a fake website using our name, logo or similar.

Fake Giveaways

Another common scam are fake give-aways along the lines of “Send me 1 BTC and we will send 2 BTC back.” It should go without saying that such offers – as they sound too good to be true – are of course scams. Unfortunately, especially the latter type of scam has often been propagated by YouTube videos and it is unclear why Google’s AI algorithms still allow such ads to be posted.

Be aware of scammers pretending to be Blocktrade and appearing in the comments under our posts promoting fake giveaways. And always remember: Do not send any crypto to wallet addresses that you don’t know who they’re belonging to.

Please report fake websites and social media channels.

If you see a website that uses our logo, name or address, please report it directly to us at [email protected] and we will take care of it.
